SAP and KM

The SAP Knowledge Management (KM) platform can support information management for unstructured content (documents).  The platform covers the following five basic components:

Repository Framework

Handles the storage of documents (with their content and properties), retrieves documents from different sources and offers basic services such as structuring, navigation, versioning, access control, status management, approval workflow.

Indexing & Searching

Builds indexes over repositories and then answers full-text, property and taxonomy-based queries to retrieve documents independently of their physical location.

Taxonomy & Classification

Maintains global hierarchies, attaches documents to hierarchies either via automatic or manual classification and defines a publication workflow for hierarchies based on the document state.

Subscription & Notification

Manages subscriptions to any event (e.g. content change) related to a document, folder and automatically sends notifications to push interesting information to users.

Communication & Collaboration

Enables documents to be sent and received, allows collaboration with other users over documents by sending feedback, rating and annotating the document or opening a discussion.
